The Ethiopian Psychologists Association
The Ethiopian Psychologists’ Association (EPA) was established on May 2, 1992. The founders of the Association were 11 psychology graduates from Addis Ababa University (AAU) who were seriously concerned about the fate of psychologists in the workplace. During those days, university graduates were not in fact having problems finding employment but newer fields like Psychology were not properly understood and, hence graduates were in many cases assigned to responsibilities not commensurate with their training. The prime objective of the Association at that time was mainly to appropriate the role of psychologists’ particularly in the Ethiopian Civil Service Commission. Although established with this and related other initial and yet limited professional concerns, EPA was in reality far removed from such narrow conceptions from the outset both in membership requirements as well as domains of functioning.
