About item Bank
The Multi-Purpose Assessment Item Bank, developed by the Ethiopian Psychologists’ Association (EPA) in collaboration with experts and stakeholders, is a centralized platform for high-quality, validated test items. Designed to support placement, formative, diagnostic, and evaluative assessments, it aims to enhance fairness, reliability, and efficiency in Ethiopia’s education system.
By integrating cutting-edge technology and psychometric validation, the Item Bank ensures standardized and adaptable assessments for educators, institutions, and policymakers. Beyond improving evaluation methods, it also creates income-generating opportunities for instructors and assessment professionals.
The project aims to create a state-of-the-art platform that features adaptive testing capabilities, seamless integration with learning management systems, high-quality content, and robust evaluation and reporting tools. EPA and the consultants will utilize advanced technologies, including cloud-based systems, adaptive testing software, and data management tools, to achieve these objectives.
The project will adopt an agile and phased development approach, involving requirements analysis, system design, item bank development, platform integration, training, and testing.
The project emphasizes seamless integration with existing systems and customization to meet the specific needs of various psychology departments. Comprehensive training, user documentation, and ongoing technical support will be provided to administrators, teachers, and students. A helpdesk system will also be established to address technical issues promptly. Collaboration with universities, educators, and other experts will ensure the platform's relevance and coverage across educational domains.
What is the Item Bank?
An item bank is a digital database of test items or questions used to create assessments for various purposes, including placement, formative, diagnostic, and evaluative testing.
It includes questions in multiple formats (e.g., multiple-choice, true/false, short answer) along with metadata like correct answers and scoring rubrics. Item banks simplify test creation, storage, and modification, enabling educators to generate assessments tailored to specific content areas, difficulty levels, or learning objectives. They also improve test security and fairness by allowing automated, randomized test assembly.
